ANTIOCH BUSINESS OWNER RECEIVES
THE ILLINOIS GIRL SCOUTS
COMMUNITY WOMAN OF ACHIEVMENT AWARD
May 19, 2006: Deerfield: Hundreds of Illinois Girl Scouts, Girl Scout leaders, and community and business leaders gathered last night at the Deerfield Hyatt to participate in the Illinois Girl Scouts Annual Celebration of Achievement. Sponsored by the Illinois Crossroads Council, with more than 2,000 Girl Scout Troops, and membership of more than 38,700 girls from 102 Illinois communities, this Celebration of Achievement honors women and girls who have achieved extraordinary personal and professional success.
Terri Goodness, Creative Director of The Goodness Company, an Antioch-based Advertising, Marketing, Graphic Design & Public Relations firm, was one of two women from Illinois to receive the “Community Woman of Achievement” Award. The other recipient was Major Tammy Duckworth, the US Army Blackhawk helicopter pilot that was shot down during the Iraqi war, causing her to lose both of her legs. Tammy received the Purple Heart, the Air Medal and the Army Commendation Medal for her service. Tammy also recently ran for U.S. Congress, Illinois Sixth District.
Goodness was chosen to receive the Community Woman of Achievement Award from a large pool of business and community leaders across the state. What set Goodness apart was her reputation as a design innovator and the distinction of helping The Goodness Company earn a coveted position as one of the Top 100 Woman-Owned Businesses in Illinois for 2005. With clients such as Allstate Insurance Company, Microsoft and the American Lung Association, The Goodness Company has become the smallest Advertising Agency in the US with Fortune 50 Business. Led by Goodness, the company’s reputation as a design powerhouse has also helped the company earn business from such notables as Steven Spielberg, the Smithsonian, the US Federal Government and IGA.
Goodness was also chosen for this award because of her commitment to community. In March of 2006, The Goodness Company launched a new charity program called “Operation School Supplies” which has donated more than $2,000 in school supplies to elementary schools in warn torn regions of Iraq. The Goodness Company continues to petition for the support of other Illinois companies to join this worthy cause to help the most innocent victims of this war.
In her acceptance speech, Goodness gave some words of encouragement to the hundreds of young Girl Scouts in attendance. She said “Achievement is not an act. It is the process of becoming. To achieve, one must first do. The process of achievement begins with the simple act of believing in yourself. Achievement comes when you believe so completely and act with such determination that failure is never an option.
